DR. STEPHEN LEVY, ND, LAC, LMT
Dr. Stephen Levy is a licensed Naturopath, Acupuncturist and Massage Therapist. He received his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and his Masters in Classical Chinese Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2007. He is licensed by the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine as a Naturopath, the Oregon Medical Board as an Acupuncturist, and the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists as a Massage Therapist.
Stephen grew up in a very large family in Norfolk, Virginia and as far back as he can remember, he wanted to be a doctor like his father was. He attended college at the University of Virginia at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains where he became interested in nature through his experiences with the mountaineering club. After graduating from U.Va. he moved to Colorado where he worked as an EMT, a mountaineering instructor, and where he began educating himself in western herbal medicine and diet and nutrition.
After suffering a climbing injury, a friend who was a massage therapist helped him recover and this introduced Dr. Levy to the healing power of touch. He was so inspired that he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to go to massage school at the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts and when he completed this education in 1996 he opened his massage practice there as well. His love of natural medicine grew during this time and Dr. Levy decided to embark on more formal training in natural medicine. He went back to school and received a Pre-medical degree before moving to Oregon to attend NUNM.
Dr. Levy considers both Naturopathic Medicine and Chinese Medicine to be “natural medicines” which are supportive, not exclusive, to one another and he integrates them equally into his practice. This means that after a comprehensive initial intake, he is able to offer both Naturopathic and Chinese medicine assessments and treatment options. Preference toward either modality can be given based on the individual patient's needs and desires, the condition being treated, and a multitude of other factors specific to each person's case.
Dr. Levy is a Primary Care Practitioner (PCP) and the focus of his practice is family medicine. Nothing brings him more joy than to see the children, parents, and grandparents of a family grow together in health. From childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood he appreciates the opportunity to relate to each member of the family and assist them in their healthcare needs.
In his time away from the clinic, you will most likely find Stephen out playing tennis in one of Portland's many parks, hiking in the Pacific N.W. Wilderness, working on ceramics at his home studio, or foraging in the garden for something yummy to eat.
